The Day I Cooked Homemade Burgers

Kilkenny and Tipp jerseys

Herself has two jerseys to auction off on air this week, both from the 2009 All-Ireland senior hurling final. The Kilkenny jersey is signed by Tommy Walsh (0-1) and the Tipperary jersey signed by Eoin Kelly (0-13). They were in our sitting room this morning but currently residing at the KCLR studios.

Esquires Artwork

The walls of Esquires coffee shop on High Street are usually found with works from local and visiting artists, like this one.

Friary Church

Had to stop in during the day to pick up a mass card. I remember singing here for a Sunday mass service maybe 11 or 12 years ago, likely the last time I stepped foot in the door too.

Homemade Burgers

My first attempt (yes) at homemade burgers. Steak mince, pork mince, onion, blue cheese, soy sauce, lime, salt, pepper, oh so tender and tasty. Will post a recipe over on Any Given Food over the weekend.

Note: This post appearing means I’m working my way back through the August photos, all will be backdated accordingly. There’s always time to take a photo in the day, even if you don’t get to the blog straight away (or within 31 days).

The Day At The Dentist

Dentist Waiting Room

I’m not sure when the last time I went to the dentist was but I found myself in the waiting room of a recently opened practice today ahead of an afternoon meeting. The table contents sure trump those of the waiting rooms I remember. Included were this month’s edition of Delicious magazine, Triathlon magazine and Brian Cody’s biography, amongst others.

The Day With Comfort & Spice

The Darker Wood

Lucy McKenna’s The Darker Wood is installed and up and running in the Castle Park for the opening of Kilkenny Arts Festival this weekend. Check it out on the stretch between the graveyard and the pond.

The Darker Wood

Don’t go lying up against the wall, whatever you do.

The Darker Wood

Do you see what I see?

The Darker Wood

Post-training dinner of homemade sliders and homefries with a salad. Delish.

Got a treat in the post of four different jars of Sarah’s Honey (Mileeven Foods), my pick of the bunch being the Zingy Honey with Lemon.

Baked Lemon Honey Chicken

One of the recipe cards included was for roast chicken fillets with a lemon honey marinade. Of course I had to indulge…

The Day With The Apple & Rhubarb Cheesecake

Cheesecake Ingredients

As you do, I decided to make an apple and rhubarb cheesecake. Turned out to be all kinds of awesome.

Ginger Nut Biscuits for a base

Ginger nut biscuits for a base, very important.

Kenwood Kmix hand mixer

Also picked up a new Kenwood Kmix hand mixer. 70 bucks, worth the investment.

Bennetsbridge Road Roundabout

Someone milled the roadsigns at the Bennetsbridge Road Roundabout out of it last night.

Fresh cheesecake

Game, set and match for my apple & rhubarb cheesecake. You’ll get the recipe here.

Pint of Smithwicks & a glass of white wine

Cheesecake set, it was off for an evening drink and a plate of food with herself, a pint and a glass of wine at the Clubhouse.

The Day With The Festival Spectacle

Battle Of The Bands winners (from yesterday) get the afternoon entertainment underway at Abhainn Ri Festival.

They’re watching you…

Some of the juniors from Callan boxing club get ready to trade blows.

Drummers getting set outside the festival office.

Drumming by night and glowing up at the same time.

Fire dancers outside the church in Callan.

The spectacle night parade well under way.

Can you make out the shape to the left? It’s one *very* tall stilt-walker directing the parade to its close.

The Day With A Breakfast Meeting and Exhibitions

Breakfast at Esquires

From the Tea Rooms to the Coffee Club to the Design Centre to The Field, Esquires is now the home for breakfast meetings for Devious Theatre. This, despite that the fact that we’ve got a new office we really need to move into.

iPad Walk Home

Strolling home from town with the iPad on the walk, getting a fix of the Saturday news via TheJournal.ie.

String Installation

The Abhainn Ri Festival wraps tomorrow so I hit Callan for a walk around of the visual arts strand. This piece is a string installation by Mary Butler at Fennelly’s Yard.

Taxidermy Rabbits

Magnhild Opdol likes her taxidermy and has a selection of rabbits on display on Bridge Street. You can find more photos over at LoveArtsCulture.com or Love Arts Culture on Facebook.

The Day The Bank Holiday Started

Business Banking

Hitting the bank just before closing for the bank holiday. This cheque sees a new project start on Tuesday.

Yorkie - It's Not For Girls

Someone argued recently that ‘It’s Not For Girls’ is not printed on the side of Yorkie bars. So, had to buy one to prove a point, eating it in the process.

River Nore in Kilkenny

The view from John’s Bridge looking back down the River Nore.

Southern Comfort

It’s the bank holiday, right? Enough whiskey left in the bottle (that lives in the freezer) for a glass for myself and herself. Refreshing.

The Day I Bought The New Web Cam

Form A Line

The Arts Festival is almost upon us and one of the fringe events sees Andrew Ludick and Ross Stewart exhibit ceramics and paintings at Castle Yard Studio 3A at Kilkenny Design Centre between August 4th and 14th. Snapped on the wall in Cleere’s.

Argos Touch Screen

It’s been a while since I’ve been in Argos. Their catalog checker is now a touchscreen full-colour version of the catalog.

Microsoft Lifecam

Seeking a new webcam and bought the Microsoft LifeCam HD-5000 around the €30 price bracket. Need to get something for the home computer to keep up with the Skype calls abroad.

MacDonagh Junction

Soooo… How’s that 121 bedroom hotel coming along, eh?

Sla Cooking

Met the lads for some late night work combined with dinner. Sla whipped up a storm…

Vegetable Korma

…and produced a gluten and dairy free vegetable Korma. Chili optional. Tasty out.
